France has proof Syrian government conducted chemical weapons attack: Macron

US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed on Saturday the recent joint missile strikes against Syria and agreed to continue the global fight against Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in Russian Federation, the White House press service said.

Trump said the USA was prepared to keep up the economic, diplomatic and military pressure on Assad until he ends what Trump called a criminal pattern of killing his own people with internationally banned chemical weapons.

He added "the facts and the responsibility of the Syrian regime are not in doubt, ' concerning the 'deaths of dozens of men, women and children" in what he said was a chemical weapons attack on April 7 in Douma.

President Macron also said they will decide whether to strike back when all the necessary information has been gathered.

The statement came hours after French President Emmanuel Macron asserted that Paris had convinced Trump to stay engaged in Syria "for the long-term".

Macron invited Trump to assist to Bastille day celebrations past year and will travel to Washington on a state visit later this month.

France said on Saturday it would not hesitate to strike Syrian government targets again if the chemical red line was crossed, but that no new strikes were planned at this stage, adding that it would renew a push for peace through dialogue with Russian Federation.

He said the military operation in Syria was legitimate and within the worldwide community framework, and was not a declaration of war.

President Vladimir Putin the allies would strike overnight when they talked over the phone on Friday.

During his interview, Macron said Putin was an "accomplice" to Syria's alleged use of chemicals weapons.

Macron had warmer words for Turkey.

Pointing to the overnight strike, another advisor to Macron said: "This is proof today that the political line he drew at the start of his mandate was meant to be respected".

However, after persistent reports of chlorine attacks over the past year, his foreign minister and aides have been more nuanced saying a response would hinge on French intelligence proving both the use of chemicals and fatalities, and a riposte would most likely be in coordination with the US.

During the interview the French President said his country had not declared war on Syria, calling the strikes a "reprisal" for violations of the treaty banning the use of chemical weapons.
