Kagiso Rabada faces suspension after 'shoulder brush' incident with Steve Smith

Bales are seen flying as the wicket of Australia batsman Mitchell Marsh is taken by South Africa bowler Kagiso Rabada during day four of the second Cricket Test match between South Africa and Australia at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth on March 1

Kagiso Rabada is out of the remainder of the Test series against Australia unless he can overturn a level two charge for physical contact with the touring captain Steven Smith on day one in Port Elizabeth.

AB de Villiers scored a stylish, unbeaten half-century as patient South Africa edged ahead of Australia on a slow wicket on the second day of the second Test, going to the close at 263 for seven at St George's Park on Saturday.

Partnering with the tail Tim Paine ensured it wagged, as the last two wickets added 61 valuable runs to the visitor's total, before Ngidi finished the innings by dislodging Paine's off stump.

South Africa were poor in the opening innings but put up a good fight in the second, where they were set a mammoth 417-run chase and fleetingly looked capable of achieving it before their resistance crumbled.

Australia which is one of the two oldest Test playing country in the World won their inaugural Test match in the tour against South Africa.

However, Australia started their first innings with Bancroft and Warner.

Marsh (24) also reviewed the LBW decision and, he too, failed.

David Warner was fined 75 percent of his match fee and given three demerit points following a bust-up with South Africa's Quinton de Kock as the players went to the dressing rooms at the tea interval on day four.

It was a result that maintained Australia's long-standing Test dominance on South African soil but was overshadowed by spats both on and off the field that have left the participation of Australian vice-captain David Warner in doubt.

"The wicket felt like it had a little bit in it all day and they batted especially well in the second session".

Starc bowled Amla and Josh Hazlewood had Elgar caught behind eight balls later.

The home side have a narrow advantage of 20 runs with the brilliant De Villiers on 74 from 81 balls and all-rounder Vernon Philander to resume on 14 in the search for what could be crucial first innings runs in an engrossing contest.

When spinner Nathan Lyon (1/29) bowled Quinton de Kock (9), South Africa still trailed by 16 runs with three wickets remaining, but De Villiers continued to play positive cricket as he looked supremely comfortable at the crease, in stark contrast to just about every other batsman in the game. Rabada claimed the contact was unintentional and will have a disciplinary hearing on Sunday.
