UK's Labour suspends members active in 'antisemitic' Facebook group

Report UK Labour leader belongs to secret anti Semitic Facebook group

However Labour's Scottish executive ruled their motions out of date because they had been submitted before Mr Corbyn's backing for a customs union.

Corbyn himself was a member of the circle - which can not be discovered through normal Facebook searches thanks to its security settings - after being added by another participant.

It is understood disciplinary procedures, including suspensions, have been initiated against a number of members of Palestine Live where they have been found to be Labour members, though it is understood that at least one, who had been presenting as a Labour member, was not.

Jacqueline Walker, the former Momentum steering group member who is suspended from Labour for comments calling Jewish people "the main financiers of the slave trade", is also a member.

Although there is no suggestion Corbyn himself posted or shared offensive material, Collier's report showed he had commented on a thread in which the term "Zio" was used, and interacted with a group administrator who previously claimed Israel was responsible for the 9/11 terror attack.

He told the Press Association: "I was joined on to that group without knowing it in probably about 2013/14".

'There were thousands of members of this group.

Later responding to Mr Corbyn's speech Ms Slither said there was "no Left-wing case" for leaving the single market adding: "If we want to fund our radical manifestos to deliver governments for the many, not the few, we must support permanent United Kingdom membership of the European single market and the customs union".

And because the most active members of this Facebook group also tend to be the more anti-Semitic ones, their views set the tone for the group as a whole. "I have removed myself from it", he stressed. I have never read all the messages on it. "Obviously, any antisemitic comment is wrong".

The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism published screenshots of messages said to have been posted on the Palestine Live group. "Any antisemitism in any form is wrong".

The UK-based Campaign Against Antisemitism is accusing Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn with participation in a Facebook group rife with anti-Semitic activity, prior to his first weeks in the leadership.

"As anyone knows, in social media all sorts of things are posted which often others participating aren't even aware of", the spokesperson, who was not named, was quoted as saying.

He added: "Had I seen it, of course, I would have challenged it straight away but I actually don't spend all my time reading social media".

"It is repugnant if there are antisemitic posts - and I gather there are".

Before last June's general election, Labour said it would seek to bring train operators and water and energy utilities back into public ownership, and since then has said it wants to reduce the role of private contractors in providing public services.

"Jeremy Corbyn and Richard Leonard are the Tories' willing helpers for an extreme Brexit that will destroy Scottish jobs, hit investment and exports, and damage living standards for communities the length and breadth of the country - they should be ashamed of that", said MSP Clare Haughey.
