Nokia reveals 5 new phones, and a nice surprise for fans

Android Go phones will be unveiled at next week’s MWC 2018 By Rei Padla

Around 400 million feature phones are expected to be sold this year, according to CCS Insight, and HMD is hoping to convert those people still using such devices and bring them into the Nokia brand.

Nokia was the undoubted star of last year's MWC, when the company showcased an overhauled version of its iconic 3310 handset following several years in the wilderness.

About a month ago, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas made a post on Twitter to tease the launches planned for MWC 2018.

In a Nokia spokesperson's own words, the new Nokia 8110 4G banana phone is "something that's reliable, that can stand every day life, and that you can trust the quality".

The big topics, as with many conferences in the a year ago or so, are going to be 5G, AI and IoT. Some of these Android Go apps have already been launched like YouTube Go, Google Go, Play Store Go, and Gmail Go.

We suspect that this is partly enabled by the more powerful Qualcomm platform that it's running on. It will be available in Black/Copper, White/Iron and Blue/Gold, color variants.

As rumored, the Nokia 1 is meant for first-time smartphone users, says HMD. Nokia 6 has an appealing design and improved specifications. Nokia 1 runs on Android Oreo Go Edition. Here is everything you need to know about the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 6 (2018). For starters, the processor has now been upgraded to Snapdragon 630, a chip that's known for its power efficiency. Notably, the smartphone comes with facial recognition technology. The display up front has a 5.5-inch diagonal and a standard, 16:9 aspect ratio. For software, it runs on Android Oreo OS.

The Nokia 7 Plus is machined from a single block of aluminum which then receives 6 layers of paint for a ceramic-like finish. It includes a 12MP rear camera with an f/1.75 aperture along with a 13MP camera with an f/2.6 aperture. What's more, the camera is capable of taking pictures in Portrait Mode.

After the Nokia 8, HMD Global is said to launch a brand-new flagship smartphone this 2018. In the same vein as the luxury described above, this device has a "Full 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 body [that] curves around on all sides of the stainless-steel chassis for beauty and strength". It also carries IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Nokia claims the smartphone can attain a 50 per cent charge in just 30 minutes.

While the rest of Nokia's new lineup goes with a milled aluminium approach, the Nokia 8 Sirocco goes a very different way for its construction. There is a 5MP front camera as well. The Dual-Sight feature enables both front and back cameras to give a split screen visual. Connectivity features of the phone include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. Available from early April, Nokia 1 is priced at $85 (or approx Rs 5500).
