Chinese army may return to Doklam after winter, says General Rawat

Indian troops prepared to deal with China: Chief of Army Gen Bipin Rawat

The Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Friday spoke about the security concerns posed by China, admitting that the Chinese People's Liberation Army "was exerting pressure" on the Indian troops. Pakistan is sending messages regularly to return to ceasefire.

We can not allow our neighbours Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, to drift away from us. If we will have to really confront the Pakistanis, and a task is given to us, we are not going to say we can not cross the border because they have nuclear weapons.

The Army Chief stressed on the need modern weapons and technology.

"Already, Pakistan has suffered 3-4 times higher casualties due to the retaliatory action following the ceasefire violation", he said in his annual media briefing ahead of Army Day.

Rawat, who was talking to reporters, said that minor construction continues to take place in Doklam but a year ago the face-off happened because it saw personnel from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) moving in large amount of equipment.

Doklam - a tract of land simultaneously claimed by Bhutan and China - was the site of a bitter stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops a year ago. "Too long we have focused on the western border, now it is time to build infrastructure on the Northern Border", Rawat said. "Terrorists are a perishable community, we have to inflict pain on the Pakistan Army", he said. "The teachers who teach are also brought up in the same system", he said. "Very soon we will have a hotline with the Chinese side", he said.

"But to say complete pressure has been put on Pakistan... let us see it is a step by step process".

The stand-off was resolved after Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened and took up the issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Hamburg during the G-20 summit past year.

He also attacked the Madarsa institutions for incorrectly informing the students and spreading falsehood, saying, "The government needs to open more CBSE schools in the valley".

He said that the system that came in place after the 1971 war was aimed at helping the family of martyrs, but was however also misused. It will not be proper to comment on the issue, he said.
