Tonya Harding's estranged mother disputes I, Tonya portrayal

On Jan. 6, 1994, during a practice session for the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Kerrigan was clubbed on the right knee with a baton by an assailant.

The two-hour special on ABC will feature rarely seen video of Harding as a child and interviews with television news anchor Connie Chung, whose interview with Harding during the 1994 Olympics was cut short when she walked out. "She was attacked by a man hired by Tonya's abusive ex-husband's mind-bendingly stupid best friend".

Tonya Harding skates her way to victory, January 8, 1994, at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Mich. While Harding has sat down for multiple interviews, even appearing on the red carpet at the film's Los Angeles premiere and attending the 75th Annual Golden Globes Awards, Kerrigan has stayed hush. until now. "I don't know if it's because you're so exhausted when you're filming you're nearly delusional".

"I have taken a few hard falls and stuff", she said.

"I respect you for trying to ask these questions, but I'm here for the future and what it means to me", she told the presenting duo.

If pressed for the information, most would say it was rival skater Tonya Harding, and with good reason: Harding stood to gain the most if Kerrigan went down, and she seemed to fit the profile of someone who'd carry out a cheap hit on the competition. "But it's my faith in myself and in my father that comes back to me and makes me get back up off my butt and be something worth being proud of", she said.

Harding denied having any involvement in the attack but pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder prosecution.

All the newfound attention is pushing Harding to sharpen her skills on the ice. She said she also didn't watch the Golden Globes, because she was in San Jose for the USA national figure skating championships.

When asked if she had ever apologized to Kerrigan, Harding said she had multiple times. Is Nancy bothered by Hollywood's portrayal of Tonya? It was she who squandered the opportunities she was given to win two Olympic medals. June 30, 1994: Harding is stripped of her 1994 national figure skating title and banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

Amy Robach told Inside Edition that she doesn't believe Harding's her reputation has been rehabilitated, but the skater takes comfort in the fact that "her story is finally being told". It begins with 4-year-old Tonya's arrival on the ice, pushed there by her stage-mother-from-hell, LaVona Golden (Allison Janney, puffing on More cigarettes, and swearing like a longshoreman). Steve Slocum, AP Shawn Eric Eckardt (L), bodyguard of figure skater Tonya Harding, and fellow defendant Derrick Smith (R) are joined by Smith's attorney Robert Goffredi as they face Judge Donald Londer during their arraignment on charges of conspiracy to commit assault in the attack on skater Nancy Kerrigan.
