Camila Cabello "Wasn't Prepared For" Fifth Harmony's Shade-Filled 2017 VMAs Performance

In an interview with the New York Times ahead of her album release for Camila, the "Havana" singer publicly acknowledges the tensions within Fifth Harmony - something that forced her to make a choice between the group and a solo career sooner than she anticipated.

"Havana" also topped the charts in the United Kingdom and Australia and total Spotify streams have surpassed 545 million, while its official music video has exceeded 500 million hits on YouTube and Vevo.

Oooooof. Camila usually avoids anything that could even remotely be contrued as talking smack about her former bandmates, so insinuating that Fifth Harmony's diss was petty is probably the most pointed diss we'll ever get from the "Havana" singer. If Cabello hasn't turned out to be the domineering force of nature we imagined when she shook up Fifth Harmony, there's as much to be said for a relatable sense of delight as a knack for disruption.

"I'd just say congratulations".

Camila Cabello has no doubt taken off since her departure from Fifth Harmony.

Revealed this week, Billboard reports that the song is having the longest run on the Pop Songs chart since Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" in 2013.

The four remaining women of 5H kicked off their VMA performance appearing in silhouette with one extra member, before one of them was pulled off the stage, hinting at a not-so-civil exit from Cabello after the jumped ship and left the group.

She added, "I wasn't expecting it, I wasn't prepared for it - especially because at that point I'd moved on from it".

"It definitely hurt my feelings", said the Cuban-born Miami resident, who told the Times the stunt made her cry.

Last year, there was a seismic shift in cultural appetite: Rap overtook rock as the most popular music genre, and soldiering pop heavyweights found chinks in their armor as swaggering viral upstarts came for their thrones. It's a savvy enough Latin pastiche to make flawless sense in the "Despacito" age, even if the Cuban-born upstart's ode to her homeland has her sounding less like Celia Cruz than Selena Gomez, the singer she's most primed to compete against. "And I love Ryan, I love, you know, I've seen Deadpool and, you know, I just love his movies", she said in an interview with KTU airing Friday, January 12.
