LG unveils world's first rollable TV ahead of CES 2018

The South Korean major has already announced a slew of products, including an 88-inch 8K TV, which it will be showcasing at the CES 2018. Smaller-scale versions of flexible displays have been used by LG before - like in the LG G Flex 2, for example - but seeing it used in a proper TV-like package is new territory. The images and details that are available about the Roll UP TV suggest it is going to be as thin as paper and when opened, will provide a 65-inch OLED screen with 4K resolution (3,840x, 2160p).

LG created the screen using its famous OLED display technology, which allows for a wide range of colours and impressive contrast.

LG Display had brought up the foldable OLED display quite some time back and that 18-inch display could be literally rolled up like a newspaper. Once rolled in, the display looks like a sound bar.

Last year, the firm successfully developed a 77-inch transparent OLED display.

If you're in the unlikely Venn diagram of people who want a giant television screen but don't want to see it much, then you're in luck.

This is far from the first we've heard about a rollable OLED from LG Display.

LG's OLED 4K TVs have been getting more powerful and innovative by the year since they first came out and the models of 2017 really impressed with both their specs and in the case of the flagship W7 hanging TV, which we reviewed here with their absolutely unique design.

LG hopes that this sort of display will allow customers to enjoy bright, hi-res content "anytime, anywhere". The company recently amazed everyone with an 88-inch smart TV that boasts of whopping 8K resolution.
