Niantic Labs (Pokemon Go!) and Warner Bros. are joining forces to create Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Warner Bros and Niantic are working collaboratively with Portkey Games, a fairly new game label that is dedicated to bringing Harry Potter to the real world on mobile devices.

Niantic has had scaling problems when making games for a beloved franchise that millions are clamoring for before. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games to develop the new game. Reported today by Tech Crunch, the new project is another AR game, this time based on the magical world of Harry Potter.

Rumors flew a year ago that a game was under development but nothing was ever officially confirmed, but now we know for sure.

Harry Potter: Wizards United is slated for release in 2018.

Niantic, the studio behind GPS-based augmented reality (AR) game Pokemon Go, has snagged another major partnership: Harry Potter. In the company's press release, they revealed that players will explore their neighborhoods and beyond to "go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters".

The answer to those questions may very well determine the long-term health of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but you have to believe that the app's short-term prospects are quite good. Well, Wizards Unite might be here to answer your prayers. Past that, there's no further details: TechCrunch have no screenshots for the game, and no confirmation on exactly how it will play.

Get ready to finally become the witch or wizard you've always wanted to be.

Much like The Silph Road, formed at the start of the Pokemon GO phenomenon, so too has another Reddit community appeared here and now.
