North Korea threatens 'unimaginable strike' on U.S. ship

Trump has previously hit out at China

North Korea has threatened to launch an "unimaginable" strike on the U.S.in the face of U.S.

"The US is running amok by introducing under our nose the targets we have set as primary ones".

A North Korean agency made a threat Thursday that Pyongyang could stage an "unimaginable" strike on the United States at an unexpected time amid tensions over the North's nuclear and missile programs, APA reported citing Yonhap agency. China has condemned the exercises in the past, calling the us and North Korea in March "two accelerating trains coming toward each other".

The drills are being held amid rapidly heightening tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, and the North says they are "a demonstration of the real strike upon the DPRK [North Korea]".

Earlier on Monday, the United States and South Korea military forces began five days of military exercises that involve fighter jets, helicopters and about 40 ships and submarines.

North Korea claimed in its statement that the drill "proves that the US and South Korean puppet authorities are attempting to ignite a war on the Korean peninsula at any cost".

The fiery comments were made ahead of a drill being held next week by the US and South Korea, which will see Americans in the Korean Peninsula practicing being evacuated in the event of a nuclear "crisis".

The exercises are the latest instance of U.S. military hardware movements around the Korean peninsula.

North Korea condemned Seoul and Washington's move to mobilise nuclear strategic assets near the volatile peninsula. The new sanctions prohibit all sales of natural gas to North Korea and limit the amount of oil that can be sold to it.

Tensions between the US and North Korea have grown following North Korea's 6th nuclear test in September.

North Korea is increasingly isolated as Russian Federation and China joined the United States to impose new sanctions on the regime.

A series of weapons tests by Pyongyang, including its sixth and most powerful nuclear test on September 3 and two missile launches over Japan, has stoked tension in East Asia.

And, not surprisingly, North Korea isn't pleased.

A Russian who returned from a visit to Pyongyang has said the regime is preparing to test a missile it believes can reach the USA west coast. "They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".
