Kaepernick Files Grievance Saying NFL, Owners Conspired To Shut Him Out

Colin Kaepernick Reportedly Files Grievance Against NFL Owners for Collusion

Protecting all athletes from such collusive conduct is what compelled Mr. Kaepernick to file his grievance.

Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who took a knee during the playing of the national anthem before games last season to protest police treatment of blacks, alleges that the NFL and team owners violated anti-collusion provisions in the league's collective bargaining agreement with its players. But through six weeks of the regular season, he has still yet to receive an offer, despite a proven history of winning caliber play and a fairly solid statistical season a year ago, when he threw for 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Such a precedent threatens all patriotic Americans and harkens back to our darkest days as a nation.

As Sports Illustrated has pointed out Kaepernick faces a number of challenges through his collusion claim, with the athlete needing evidence of collusion in order to have a successful case.

The NFLPA also released a statement quoted in full by CBS Sports.

"Our union has a duty to assist Mr. Kaepernick as we do all players and we will support him", the statement said, adding that the union is scheduling a call with his advisers for early this week.

"We first learned through media reports today that Mr. Kaepernick filed a grievance claiming collusion through our arbitration system and is represented by his own counsel". He switched from sitting to kneeling after a discussion with former National Football League player and Army Ranger Nate Boyer, and did so throughout the 2016 National Football League season.

The movement has angered Donald Trump, who ordered Vice-President Mike Pence to leave a game last week in which players were protesting. "But other than that, they have every right to decide if he's a business liability, and that's exactly what he is". Kaepernick could give all players a tremendous piece of leverage, moving up the expiration of the contract by more than three years and forcing the owners back to the bargaining table.

However, Commissioner Roger Goodell has denied there has been any blackballing of the quarterback.
