Tehran at Ease, United and Ready as Trump to Announce Iran Strategy

Iran: US forces in danger if White House tags country's military as terror group

US President Trump is considering tougher sanctions against Iran, including listing the Revolutionary Guards as a terror group.

"America's behaviour has frustrated the world", said Iran's army spokesman Masoud Jazayeri, according to the semi-official ISNA agency.

Iranian officials are slamming an anticipated decision from the United States to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) a terrorist organization, saying that with such a move, the USA would be "joining the terrorists' camp".

"Unlike the pre-deal era when the whole world was united against Iran, the world is now united against the United States, particularly so because Trump's measures regarding other worldwide agreements has sparked global opposition", former Iranian diplomat Javid Ghorban Oghli said in an op-ed written for pro-reform Shargh Daily.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohammad Ali Jafari (L) and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif smile during a coordination meeting for the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, in Tehran, Iran October 9, 2017.

The Iranian foreign minister warned that in case of such a move, the U.S. would become more isolated and despicable among the Iranian people.

If Trump declines to certify the Iran deal, USA congressional leaders would have 60 days to decide whether to reimpose sanctions on Tehran suspended under the agreement.

New reports emerged Wednesday afternoon that Trump's planned speech on Iran may be scaled back and not take place until Friday, if it does at all. "We have all options on the table".

"So by taking a stance against IRGC and designating it a terrorist group, the Americans would be joining the terrorists' camp", he added.

In July 2017, the United Stated imposed new sanctions against the country's ballistic missile program. Designating the Guards as terrorists could make it more hard for Iranian businesses to take advantage of the lifting of the worldwide sanctions, since banks are required to verify that their clients are not on terrorism blacklists.

Report says if it decides Tehran is not, it could open the way for USA lawmakers to re-impose sanctions against Iran.

Remaining committed to the deal is tantamount to saving their own face, the Iranian president said.

Zarif said Iran had repeatedly announced that its defensive power was not negotiable, adding that it has been even specified in the JCPOA that Iran would not negotiate on its defensive power.
