Larson edges Truex to win Pure Michigan 400

After emerging from his auto, Larson said he had played a few restart scenarios through in his head before the two-lap shootout, but admitted that he had couldn't believe he won the race.

Points leader Martin Truex was going after his series-high fifth win of the season, first leading the pack off a restart with 10 laps remaining, but still needing the flawless restart a second time after Michael McDowell crashed, leading to a red flag to clean oil off the track with four laps left.

It was Larson's fourth career Cup victory and ended a mini-slump in which he had finished out of the top 20 in three straight races.

Chase Elliott and Trevor Bayne rounded out the top five. Brad Keselowski and Truex won the first two stages.

"Brad's a [expletive] moron", Busch told ESPN after a third-place finish in the Camping World Truck Series race at MI.

The race was originally scheduled for 200 laps and 400 miles. Another Michigan driver, Jones, stayed out four extra laps during the cycle to lead before Keselowski cycled back around to the top spot. Keselowski was second to Truex in the second stage.

NOTES: Kyle Busch led 47 laps in the 100-lap NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday before finishing third.

The Watkins Glen road course provided the usual exciting racing in both the NASCAR Xfinity series and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series last weekend. Chase Elliott finished second in all three of his previous races at MI.
