Rory McIlroy still out of tune at PGA Championship

Rory Mc Ilroy might not play again this season due to injury

Ernie Els, in contrast, will probably have one round remaining in his PGA Championship career after falling to a deflating opening nine-over 80 and 138th position.

Kisner continues to own a piece of the lead following his second consecutive 4-under 67.

Kisner hasn't fared well in a dozen major appearances, but that hasn't changed his attitude when it comes to vying for the biggest wins in the sport. "I feel like I have the game to compete in majors, and tons of 30th, 40th and 50th-place finishes". Yet, after going to three-over a few times, I am very happy with the way I finished with two birdies on seventh and ninth and a very short miss on eighth in between.

You can bet Stroud won't mind going through that whole process again Sunday night, this time with the Wanamaker Trophy by his side. "I'm just going to do the best I can and have as much fun as I can.' All of a sudden it falls in my lap".

"I got a little unlucky when my second shot hit the cart path", he said, "It [the third] was the only option I had". "I haven't hit it this well this whole summer". "But it's a different course than we've played in the past", he said.

The final two rounds of this year's PGA Championship should present players with a very different challenge to the first two.

Day is a shot better than 2010 British Open victor Louis Oosthuizen (70, 67), Francesco Molinari (73, 64) and American Chris Stroud (14 holes), who is among 25 players that will complete their second rounds early Saturday.

"It was really the only option I had", McIlroy said. With three par-5s you need to score on them, fortunately I birdied the 15th when I got to 12 feet with my first two shots and the eagle putt hung onto the lip but it was still a birdie.

Italy's Francesco Molinari and South African Louis Oosthuizen shared fifth on 137, three strokes off the pace, with England's Paul Casey and Americans Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas sharing seventh on 139. Tournament officials sounded the horn at 4:43 with lightning in the area.

He struck two birdies in the last three holes on a golf course that was not playing easy by any means.

Despite the late fall, Stroud is still in contention after an even-par 71, which was made complete with four birdies and four bogeys.

McIlroy managed to muster back-to-back birdies at the seventh and eighth (his 16th and 17th) to get back to two over and alleviate the threat of missing the cut, but he has plenty of work to do. Fowler was now in the bunch at Tied-3rd alongside An Byeong at three-under for the tournament.
