"Alexis will not be available".

"He is focused. When you have treatment on the medical bench it's not easy".

Although Wenger admitted that entering the new campaign without Sanchez is a big blow for Arsenal, he pointed out that the striker would not have featured against Leicester even if he had not sustained the injury.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is uncertain whether the club can convince Alexis Sanchez to sign a new contract. However, Arsene Wenger has been adamant that Sanchez is not going anywhere and it is likely that the new contract can see him continue at the Emirates for more than one more season. "The players are champing at the bit to get started", he said.

"That's what I've read in the papers and on my side I've had no contact with Paris Saint-Germain".

"We need to transform the quality of the preparation into points and that is, of course, a pragmatic view, but what matters is we win the game and start in a strong way, which we didn't do a year ago".

"Alexis Sanchez is always a loss for us, of course".

"He adds great value to the squad and I think as well he is a great lover of the club". "We have all the other players prepared in preseason and they are all ready".

Aside from Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi are all doubts while Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla are longer-term absentees.

The Chile forward missed pre-season after being granted extra time off following the Confederations Cup and has been ruled out of Friday's game due to an abdominal strain.

Leicester have yet to beat the Gunners in the Premier League era with their last league win coming in 1983.

"I'm convinced in 10 or 15 years it will not necessarily be a football specialist who is a manager of a club".
