Advocates to call for action following federal climate change report

During the state’s recent drought the Almaden Reservoir in San Jose went dry revealing in 2014 a car that had been dumped in the lake. The federal government’s latest National Climate Assessment says California can expect more extreme swings between

Worldwide, 15 of the last 16 years have been the warmest years on record.

It comes as a federal climate change report said it's "extremely likely" that much of the recent rise in temperature is because of human influence. Reporter Lisa Friedman claimed the study had been exclusively obtained by the newspaper and suggested the reason for publishing it was that "scientists say they fear that the Trump administration could change or suppress the report".

Rutgers professor Bob Kopp, who contributed to CSSR, tweeted, "It's not clear what the news is in this story; posted draft is public review draft from Dec, and WH review hasn't yet missed Aug 18 deadline" to officially endorse the CSSR.

Of course decisions are also being made by the Trump administration to reverse efforts to reduce and eliminate carbon emissions, including moves to roll back President Barack Obama's biggest effort to cut carbon pollution and to pull the U.S. out of the global Paris Agreement to fight climate change. And while the results are predictably political, it's not as if it's a process that was invented by Trump. Nick Crossley, emergency management director for Ohio's Hamilton County, which includes Cincinnati, said his agency dealt with more flash flooding than usual past year. Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt and Energy Secretary Rick Perry have championed the formation of a "red-team, blue-team" exercise where climate-change skeptics would publicly debate mainstream climate scientists. The New York Times was caught once again spreading propaganda in its report on the latest Climate Science Special Report (CSSR).

In 2015, well before taking office, Trump said he was not a believer in made-made global warming. One-third of the sea level rise since 1880 has occurred since 1990, and coastal communities from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic are at increasing risk of routine flooding, saltwater intrusion into the drinking water supply and the collapse of roads, utilities and other vital infrastructure.

"The earlier you do stuff, the easier it is to prepare", said Abby Corbett, a lawyer who specializes in climate adaptation and is advising Coral Gables.

"This has been alarming for a long time", Gleick said.

The Climate Movement calls itself a coalition dedicated to making local changes.

The irony of the liberal media is they adore a story about "scientists" warning of planetary doom getting suppressed by Republicans and their fossil-fuel financiers, while they fervently believe in suppressing opposition to the doomsayers as dangerously unscientific. It increasingly has to deal as well with the perception that coal is ruining the planet.

Global annual average atmospheric Carbon dioxide concentration was 402.9 parts per million (ppm) which surpassed 400 ppm for the first time in the modern atmospheric measurement record and in ice core records dating back as far as 800,000 years, the NOAA said. And in a now famous social media post, Trump tweeted in 2012: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive".

Advocates said the threat is growing by the day and they want more people to mobilize.
