Venezuela Arrests Opposition-Appointed Judges

GETTYCorbyn and his left wing allies in the Labour party have praised Venezuelan president Nicola Maduro

At the weekend, Maduro said his government was "ready for any scenario" and blasted his foes as "terrorists" servile to Washington.

The world got a taste of Maduro's true aims earlier this month. On July 5, government- backed paramilitary forces, in collusion with the National Guard, attacked the opposition-controlled National Assembly.

The fast-escalating political showdown in the South American OPEC nation comes after more than 100 people have died and thousands more been injured in anti-government unrest since demonstrations began in April.

To carry out the plebiscite, Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD), the opposition's umbrella organisation, activated a network of voting centers, operating with full transparency, in just a few days.

In that sense, he criticized that the USA embassy in Caracas announced another wave of violence, which 'defends in the OAS (Organization of American States) as peaceful demonstrations, ' noted the minister.

The selloff has been extreme, writes Nomura's Siobhan Morden, head of Latin America fixed-income strategy.

A group of Spanish analysts, sociologists, and politician announced their complete support for President Nicolas Maduro's National Constituent Assembly, calling it a "democratic gesture of solidarity", praising the president for allowing Venezuelans to take their destiny into their own hands.

Maduro also vowed that members of a new alternative Supreme Court panel appointed by the opposition in defiance of the government would be imprisoned: "They are all going to jail, one by one". It will depend now on the working class supporters of the Maduro government to rally behind him in July 30 elections and organize a massive mandate for the Constituent Assembly.

But just as the attack on the National Assembly failed to quell public anger, so, too, will the government's dismissal of the referendum's results. In fact Trump's moves have united the Venezuelans and given a setback to the rightwingers since Bolivarian pride and nationalism have been hit by the US President's utterances.

Maduro has so far withstood the pressure and shows no signs of backing down, believing the initiative to draw up a new constitution can help break the political stalemate. The solidarity is welcome, but it will not be enough to alter the current trajectory. "Neither rubber bullets nor pellets will stop our fight for Venezuela's independence", said Arteaga.

The Venezuelan rightwingers who are based in Florida are getting full support from senator Marc Rubio who is an exile from Venezuela and interesting they are trying to rope in some Democrats also to present their legislation for regime change in Venezuela.
