Just 17 Percent Of Americans Approve Of Republican Senate Health Care Bill

US Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mc Connell, Republican of Kentucky speaks about the Senate Republican's healthcare bill alongside US Senator John Thune, Republican of South Dakota at the US Capitol in Washington DC

A majority of voters disapprove of the spending cuts to Medicaid in the Senate GOP's bill that would repeal and replace significant parts of the Affordable Care Act, according to a new poll.

Thune added:, "I've said this before-there comes a point where you got to make some decisions, you got to move forward, you got to vote-and I think we are at that point". Trump has called the House bill "mean" and prodded senators to produce a package with more "heart". A 46 percent plurality say they want to see the ACA do more, while just 7 percent want it to do less.

All the Republican senators were invited to the White House Tuesday to talk about replacing Obamacare.

With Democrats unified against it and Republicans controlling the Senate by a slim 52-48 margin, McConnell can afford to lose only two Republican senators to secure passage, with Vice President Mike Pence able to cast a tie-breaking vote.

"Consequently, we will not be on the bill this week, but we're still working toward getting at least 50 people in a comfortable place".

After the Congressional Budget Office score was released, prompting multiple Republicans to express doubts about the legislation or reiterate that they would not vote for the bill in its current form, Murkowski said she and her fellow senators should have time to examine the numbers and understand how the bill would impact their constituents before rushing to a vote.

"The Affordable Care Act is not working for many OH families and small businesses", he said. The bill was short of support heading toward a critical procedural vote Wednesday.

In the folksy analysis of John Cornyn of Texas, the Senate GOP vote-counter: "Every time you get one bullfrog in the wheelbarrow, another one jumps out".

In one illustration, an outside political group run by Trump allies has run ads against Heller and threatens more against other GOP senators opposed to the bill. John Thune of South Dakota told reporters later.

For weeks, Republicans have been publicly and privately admonishing the way their health care bill was crafted.

The ad was pulled Tuesday evening.

President Barack Obama turned treaties into "accords", to skip the headache of going through a partisan Republican Senate for approval.

But McConnell is finding it hard to satisfy demands from his diverse caucus.

Congressional Republicans have for so always been beating the drum to "repeal and replace" Obamacare - for fully seven years, in fact - that many may have come to feel somehow that chanting was all they'd ever have to do.

If Obamacare remains intact, the government would spend an estimated $415 billion next year on Medicaid, and $624 billion by the year 2026, according to the review of the bill from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

The CBO report makes one thing clear: the amount of federal revenues collected and the amount of spending on Medicaid "would nearly surely both be lower than under current law", and the number of uninsured people under the Senate health care bill "would nearly surely be greater than under current law". And an understanding that of course there are massive tax ramifications in a bill that includes billions in tax cuts and affects one-sixth of the economy.

But Democrats can never be complicit in a wholesale repeal of Obamacare that would take health coverage away from millions of Americans. "If you laid 22 million people end to end, it would reach Canada, where they could get health care".
