Jose Mourinho Releases Statement Vehemently Denying Latest Tax Fraud Allegations

Speaking on Spanish radio station Onda Cero on Monday night, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said that he was not expecting Ronaldo's departure.

Manchester United Manager, Jose Mourinho, has been accused of defrauding tax authorities in Spain during his time with Real Madrid.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo calls for referee's attention during the Confederations Cup, Group A soccer match between Portugal and Mexico, at the Kazan Arena, Russia, Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Mourinho is being accused of defrauding Spain of €3.3m (£2.9m; $3.6m) in taxes between 2011 and 2012. Other Mendes charges being investigated for alleged tax evasion while playing in La Liga include Ricardo Carvalho, Ángel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

The 32-year-old has reportedly been summoned to appear before a judge on 31 July.

The current Manchester United boss became the latest football figure embroiled in tax fraud allegations this week, following a raft of similar cases in Spain.

According to El Confidencial, Di Maria avoided paying tax by transferring his image rights to an offshore company based in Panama.

Prosecutors allege the star player failed to pay €14.8 million in tax due between 2011 and 2014 and "intentionally" misled authorities by declaring €11.5 million in taxable earnings versus a real figure of $43 million.

Prosecutors accuse the Portugal worldwide of evading tax via a shell company based in the British Virgin Islands and another in Ireland, known for its low corporate tax rate.

And by guiding United to Europa League success, the English Premier League side - the world's most valuable football club - qualified for next season's Champions League, Europe's premier cup competition. Barcelona forward Lionel Messi had a tax-related trial a year ago.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi was handed a prison sentence of 21 months but the sentence was suspended because of the law regarding jail sentences for first time offenders for non viloent crimes.
