Professor Eats His Own Books On TV After Losing Bet On Elections

Brexit minister Davis says UK could still walk away with no deal

"I was surprised that Jeremy Corbyn added two percentage points, or got two percentage points, more than I had expected and I did say that I would eat this book", Mr Goodwin said while holding up a copy of his Brexit: Why Britain voted to leave the European Union.

Corbyn was elected Labour leader nearly two years ago on a groundswell for change - a shift mirrored across Europe, where centre-left parties have lost support to anti-establishment movements that have emerged since the 2008 crisis.

The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn received 40 percent of the vote in the election, and Goodwin kept his word in an appearance on Britain's SKY News. He predicted they would get less than 5 per cent.

It is a measure of Theresa May's pure failure that she has managed to make Mr Corbyn look good.

Writing on the Guardian website the Labour MP said: "I would be lying if I denied that I can not wait to sit opposite the Tories and laugh at their massive arrogance and complacency, but we have to get our own house in order, too".

Though Labour last week lost its third successive general election, it is in buoyant mood.

"A little bit of mea culpa goes a long way, and the Labour party has a lot of humble-pie eating to do, too".

"The more they talked about him, the more I liked him".

If 2016 and 2017 have taught us anything, it's that so-called data and politics experts should never bet that their elections predictions are correct.

"I told him what I was hearing on the streets and what might and might not work".

"So let's be grown up enough to admit that, and then we can all just get on with sorting it out".
