UK Labour Leader Corbyn: 'I Can Still Be Prime Minister'

Labour's leader Jeremy Corbyn, once written off by his opponents as a no-hoper, said Mrs May should step down and that he wanted to form a minority government.

British newspapers summed it up in a word: Mayhem.

"We can confirm that the Democratic Unionist Party have agreed to the principles of an outline agreement to support the Conservative government", a spokesman for May said. Corbyn's Labour Party now has 261 seats.

The final result was announced nearly 24 hours after polls closed. In Kensington, an overwhelmingly Conservative seat - but also overwhelmingly anti-Brexit - the vote was so close that recounting was suspended at 8 a.m. on Friday so that election officials could go home and rest. She's attempting to form a government.

May said Brexit talks would begin on June 19 as scheduled, the same day the British parliament is due to reconvene.

Surprised by the U-turn, one former co-worker, Tony Smith, said last month that Ms May must have "taken her time out and gone away to think about it" before making the decision.

May will also need the support of the socially conservative, pro-Brexit Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) which won 10 seats in Northern Ireland.

Rather than resign, May quickly grabbed the lifeline of an alliance with the DUP, which won 10 seats.

"The Conservatives have not yet broken the British system of democracy, but through their hubris and incompetence they have managed to make a mockery of it", it said in an editorial.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka of the Czech Republic told Czech Television that "now it will be necessary to wait for who will form a government and what this government will bring to negotiations over Brexit", Reuters reports. "It's bad. She's in a very hard place".

In May's camp, recriminations were immediate and stinging. Her advisers said there were 800 activists cheering her on. I said at the start this election was wrong.

But after seeing her Commons majority wiped out on a night of humiliation for the Tories, she was left with limited room for manoeuvre when it came to re-shaping her top team.

He believes his party still has "more to do" and needs to learn lessons so it can go on to win a majority.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror, Mr Corbyn is champing at the bit and buzzing with enthusiasm.

"The young have a bad deal", said Ben Page, chief executive of pollster Ipsos MORI.

Page said Corbyn, a lifelong left-wing activist who has spent decades speaking to crowds, was underestimated as a campaigner.

A survey by long-standing Tory supporter Lord Michael Ashcroft on 8 June revealed huge numbers of people who voted Labour only made up their minds to do so in the last weeks and days beforehand.

Mr Leslie said Labour missed an "open goal" as he had "never known" a more beatable prime minister than Theresa May. She had hoped to boost the Conservatives' majority in Parliament and get a stronger mandate in negotiating the Brexit from the European Union.

The initiative allowed activists, particularly first-time canvassers, to easily find battleground seats and campaign more effectively for Labour.

May called the election called in a bid to strengthen her mandate ahead of European Union exit talks.

In the late stages of the campaign, Britain was hit by two Islamist militant attacks that killed 30 people in Manchester and London, temporarily shifting the focus onto security issues. But the uncertain outcome is more evidence that after the populist surges that produced Brexit and President Donald Trump - and the centrist fightbacks led by Germany's Angela Merkel and France's Emmanuel Macron - politics remains volatile and unpredictable. We want to end austerity and invest in this country and that's what we're going to do.
