House intel panel demands 'Comey tapes' as Trump razzes on their existence

The President later said he would "100%" be willing to testify under oath.

TRUMP: 100 percent. I didn't say...

He asserted that nothing in Comey's testimony to the Senate pointed to collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.

As he did in a message on Twitter Friday morning, Trump called Comey a "leaker". Mr Trump tweeted in his first comments since the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing yesterday. While Trump maintained he did not ask Comey to let the FBI's investigation into Flynn go, he told reporters "there'd be nothing wrong if I did say it".

"I will tell you about it over a fairly short period of time", he said.

"Oh you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry", he added, .

Earlier in the day, a Republican member of the Senate Intelligence committee said Congress should obtain any tapes that Trump might have of his conversations with Comey. I hardly know that man. It doesn't make sense. "No collusion, no obstruction, he's a leaker", CNN reported Trump said at one point in an assessment of the key takeaways from Comey's testimony.

The lawyer is expected to file a complaint with the justice department inspector general about the revelation next week, according to a person close to the legal team.

"His goal is to manipulate media, manipulate the press". The Senate judiciary committee, meanwhile, sent a request to Columbia University law professor Daniel Richman for Comey's memos.

Trump cryptically refused to say whether those private exchanges were taped - a matter at the heart of the conflicting accounts of what passed between them at a time when Comey was leading an FBI investigation into Russia's interference in the presidential election and its ties to the Trump campaign.

In a brief statement to reporters Thursday after Comey's testimony, Kasowitz accused Comey of admitting "that he unilaterally and surreptitiously made unauthorized disclosures to the press of privileged communications with the President".

Trump's decision to weigh in personally on Comey's testimony represented a sharp shift in strategy for the White House and could come with political risk for Trump, who has potentially undermined himself legally on other matters through his tweets, including his attempt to impose a "travel ban" on immigrants from some majority-Muslim countries.

The Russia investigations have consumed the White House and distracted the president and lawmakers from his governing agenda. That was an excuse by the Democrats, who lost an election that some people think they shouldn't have lost. He painted Mr Trump as a chief executive dismissive of the FBI's independence and made clear that he interpreted Mr Trump's request to end an investigation into the former national security adviser as an order coming from the president. And frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said.

Trump and his outside attorney, Marc Kasowitz, have zeroed in on this and lambasted Comey for ordering the "leaks".

Earlier on Thursday, Comey said, "Lordy, I hope there are tapes".

Comey also said Trump and his administration tried to "defame" him by spreading "lies, plain and simple", about his firing.

They also sent a separate request to Trump's White House counsel, Don McGahn, for any record the administration had of their meetings.

Donald Trump's private lawyer is planning to file a legal complaint against James Comey over the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's release of memos to the public that detailed his conversations with the President.

Mr Comey recalled that Mr Trump and the White House gave shifting explanations for why he was dismissed, first saying it was over his handling of the Hillary Clinton e-mail probe past year, then saying it was the Russian Federation investigation, and finally declaring Mr Comey was a poor leader disliked by the FBI staff.
