Germany thrash San Marino 7-0

San Marino, on the other hand, lost all the five matches that have played so far in the first round of UEFA WCQ 2018.

Germany fielded players from 11 different clubs in their starting line-up, the first time that has happened in 57 years, as coach Joachim Loew gave starts to some of his less experienced players.

He said: "You can try certain things in these games, gain confidence, produce nice play". I am satisfied with the performance.

"Not everything worked out but a few things did". I'm glad that I could contribute a small part by scoring three.

The lead was doubled in the 16th minute, as Sandro Wagner made a brilliant run into the box and connected well with a cross by Joshua Kimmich on the right flank to head home the second goal of the match.

Midfielder Amin Younes claimed his first goal for Germany before the break, and there were more cheers after it when Shkodran Mustafi scored two minutes into the second half.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half, with Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi knocking in a fifth shortly after the restart, before Julian Brandt bagged his first worldwide goal with a diving header and Wagner secured the match ball when he nodded in five minutes from time. Resting nearly all of the regular players made little difference. "If I don't score next season, I won't even be called up by San Marino".

In the same group, Czech Republic were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Norway, Theodor Gebre Selassie's first-half strike cancelled out by an Alexander Soderlund penalty.

Robert Lewandowski also netted a hat-trick as Poland maintained their six-point lead at the top of Group E with a 3-1 win over Romania in Warsaw.

Northern Ireland's late win at Azerbaijan earlier in the day had cut the world champions' advantage briefly, but a rampant result was never in doubt in Nuremberg.

Amin Younes and Julian Brandt also scored their first global goals while Julian Draxler and Shkodran Mustafi notched one apiece as Germany maintained their 100 percent record after six games in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
