Penguins crush Predators in pivotal Game 5

In Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, with the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins tied at 2-2, everyone is looking for a little bit of an edge.

The two-time MVP's eventful night included becoming the franchise's all-time leading scorer in the Stanley Cup Final, a two-minute roughing penalty for trying to dribble Nashville defenseman P.K. Subban's head on the ice near the end of the first period and what he said was an inadvertent flip of a water bottle onto the ice during play. This is no way for two gentlemen to behave.

"If you've got a team that has momentum and a team that's got desperation, for me anyway, the scarier team is the one that's got desperation", Laviolette said.

Where there's a Wilson: Although an unspecified injury has prevented Predators forward Colin Wilson from playing in the Stanley Cup Final, he recently has been skating with his teammates. Our guys have a tremendous amount of confidence him. There were two strong back-to-back stops, in particular, on James Neal shortly after Bryan Rust scored the second Pittsburgh goal. Hence, during Game five, Crosby retaliated back by smacking his face a lot of times into the ice.

But what the Predators do have is a roster full of players who are capable of collectively stepping up and taking a game over.

The Penguins' power play had been 1-for-16 in the series and 0-for-13 over the previous three games. "We're going back to our building and we know the energy is going to be there".

"This is going to be the biggest game of our lives", Ekholm said, "just as it has been the last 20 games or so". Crosby also repeatedly mashed Subban's head into the ice, a few games after their off-ice war of words dominated headlines.

"I felt like we stayed calm under those pressure situations", Predators forward Colton Sissons said.

On the ensuing four-on-four play, Malkin took a feed from Kessel and, from above the left dot, put a shot in over Rinne's glove to make it 3-0 with 10.2 seconds left in the first. Rinne gave way to Juuse Saros at the start of the second period after stopping just six of nine shots, continuing his wildly uneven play.

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final is a can't-miss show and not just for Penguins and Predators fans in Pittsburgh.

The Predators haven't scored a goal in 63 minutes, 23 seconds since Filip Forsberg's empty-net goal in Game 4.

In his short National Hockey League career, which began with a Cup win as the unlikely Penguins starter last spring, Murray has demonstrated an ability to rebound from poor performances. Rinne stopped 50 of 52 shots he faced back home in Games 3 and 4.

When Hainsey, who waited 907 regular-season games before reaching the playoffs for the first time this season, tapped in a pass from Malkin to make it 6-0, the stage was set for the Penguins to return to familiar territory.

In fact, Milbury said Subban "had it coming". "You're in the Cup final, this is what it's all about". It's only three games left. It's about going back and forth, back and forth. Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne watches from the bench during the second period in Game 5 of the team's NHL hockey Stanley Cup Final against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Pittsburgh. He's allowed two or fewer goals in eight of those 10 games and tied Antti Niemi with his 36th playoff win for the most in National Hockey League history by a Finnish-born goaltender.
