GOP Lawmakers Stick With Trump After Comey Testimony

Sen. Susan Collins R-Maine said she is

Legal experts have questioned Kasowitz's contention that Trump's private encounters with Comey should be considered privileged communications.

The president and his lawyer have both said that the testimony served primarily as vindication that he - President Trump - wasn't being investigated for collusion with Russian Federation during the election.

When Karl asked about the so-called "loyalty pledge" that Comey referred to, Trump denied that it ever occurred, saying "I hardly know the man, what kind of person would do that?" "Who would do that?".

Donald Trump says he is "100 percent' willing to speak under oath about his conversations with ex-FBI chief James Comey". Trump laughed and quipped "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future;" seeming to suggest that there may be tapes of his conversations.

If either Trump's testimony or memos written by Comey about his conversations with the president turn out to be untrue, either man could be charged with lying to federal investigators.

Earlier Mr Trump had his silence on Twitter, tweeting he'd been vindicated and derided Comey as a "leaker".

While Comey said Trump had lied about him, Trump didn't use that exact terminology in return on Friday.

When a reporter asked about Comey, Trump again said he never asked for the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe to be dropped - an act that experts say could constitute an obstruction of justice.

Trump claims Comey confirmed what he has said. This sends a clear message that Republicans are willing to share fake news and risky narratives in their quest to deny Russian interference in our elections.

Another reporter yelled: "Why won't you tell us now, Mr. President?"

Malcolm said the positive takeaways for Trump included confirmation the president was not under investigation and that Comey outed himself as the one who leaked to the media his notes about meetings with the president in hopes of getting a special counsel appointed.

It's unclear if Trump's outside attorney, Marc Kasowitz, will file the complaints according to CNN. Trump said there was no collusion and no obstruction and then called Comey a "leaker".

Comey's testimony was the most eagerly anticipated USA congressional hearing in years.

Trump hinted that tapes of his conversations might exist in the days following his dismissal of Comey.

"I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that's a conclusion I'm sure the special counsel will work towards to try and understand what the intention was there, and whether that's an offense", Comey said.
