Daesh leader Baghdadi reported killed: media reports

At least 79 people, including 16 children and nine women, were killed in the first five days of an offensive against the Islamic State terror group in the Syrian city of al-Raqqa, a UK-based war monitor reported on Sunday.

According to News.com.au, the ISIS "stronghold of Raqqa was bombed heavily overnight on Saturday, local time, with the terrorist group's Amaq news agency revealing the damage".

Baghdadi has a $25 million bounty on his head.

It is claimed that the leader of ISIS was killed during a heavy artillery raid on Raqqa, the Islamic State-occupied city in Syria, reports the Mirror.

In 2014 Bakr al-Baghdadi took over the city of Raqqa and declared an Islamic caliphate.

In January, it was reported that he had been critically injured in a similar attack and last week, ISIS fighters surrendered the Iraqi town of Baaj, which has served as one of the the leader's hideouts and is located west of Mosul near the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Raqqa also became the scene of some of IS's worst atrocities, including gruesome executions, public displays of bodies and sex trafficking.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group of Kurdish and Arab militias supported by a USA -led coalition, began to attack Raqqa on Tuesday after a months-long campaign to cut it off.

An estimated 300,000 civilians were believed to have been living under IS rule in Raqqa, including 80,000 who fled there from other parts of the country.

The forces are now advancing into al-Romania district in northwest Raqqa, the SDF and the Observatory said.

The US-led coalition has been backing the SDF with air strikes, equipment and special forces advisers.
