Turkey offers to help resolve Gulf-Qatar row: Minister

The officials revealed that the decision was made to "protect its national security from the dangers of terrorism and extremism". Those commitments include ending support for terrorist groups and their activities and media incitement.

Four Arab nations severed diplomatic relations with Qatar on Monday, moving swiftly to isolate the small but influential country after accusing Qatar's rulers of supporting terrorist factions and stoking regional conflicts.

With an estimated $335 billion of assets in its sovereign wealth fund, a trade surplus of $2.7 billion in April alone and extensive port facilities which it can use instead of its land border with Saudi Arabia, which has been closed, it appears likely Qatar can avoid a severe economic crisis.

The countries say Qatar is supporting terrorist groups including the Muslim Brotherhood. It has also frequently denounced the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television station, accusing it of promoting causes that run counter to GCC interests in the region.

Bahrain added that Doha is destabilizing their country's security and it meddles in its internal state affairs, so parting ways is the best option.

Qatar is also among several gulf countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, accused in recent years of looking the other way as its citizens privately sent money to Islamist militants overseas, including in Syria.

The coordinated move, with Yemen and Libya's eastern-based government joining in later, created a dramatic rift among the Arab nations, many of which are in OPEC. Qatar is being accused of supporting the Houthis. "There could be problems between the countries but dialogue must prevail in all circumstances", he said at a joint press conference in Ankara with his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel.

He expressed Turkey's "sorrow" at the decisions to cut off ties, citing the importance of regional unity and solidarity. "No country in the region will benefit from the heightened tension".

Qatar has called the severing of ties "unjustified" and announced that it continues to fight terrorism.

The Dolphin gas pipeline links Qatar's giant North Field with the UAE and Oman, and was the first cross-border gas project in the Gulf Arab region.

"It is regrettable that the situation in the Arab world has entered such a risky phase", he added.

In early Monday trading, global prices of oil went up by 1.24 percent, and this translates to $50.57 per barrel.

Talal Touqan, head of research at Abu Dhabi's Al Ramz Capital, said it was not clear how long the dispute would last and markets could recover quickly if tensions eased. "This is not acceptable behavior".

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always believed, however, that regional issues should be settled by regional countries themselves", Mehr news agency quoted the official as saying.

Peskov said Moscow expects the situation to defuse in a "peaceful" atmosphere.

Egypt will begin its ban on flights to and from Qatar on Tuesday at 6 Cairo local time (0400 GMT), the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry declared on Monday following the decision of the Egyptian government to cut relations with the Gulf State.

"Qatar Airways has suspended all flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" until 1159 GMT the same day, a statement from the Doha-based carrier said.

Doha is also the location of Al-Udeid airbase.
