Trump set to make debut on Washington's social scene

Comey testifies before the House Intelligence Committee hearing into alleged Russian meddling in the 201

Senators are expected to grill Comey - in both an open and a closed panel - on certain conversations with Trump or his aides, including one in which Trump reportedly asked Comey to drop an investigation into former White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynns dealings with Russian Federation and Turkey.

A member of the Senate intelligence committee says "we've seen no smoking gun at this point" regarding collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 USA presidential election.

US President Donald Trump will not invoke executive privilege to block former FBI Director James Comey's scheduled testimony before Congress this week, the White House has announced.

Comey's appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its Russia-related investigation will be his first public testimony since his firing on May 9.

Comey is scheduled to testify before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Thursday. Comey's conversations and meetings with Trump were memorialized in memos written by the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

The White House said Monday it would not invoke executive privilege to prevent Comey from testifying. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, deputy assistant to the president and principal deputy White House press secretary, reiterated the statement to reporters at the daily White House press briefing. The president and aides can not be compelled to testify about private conversations, but Comey is appearing before senators voluntarily. "It makes it extremely hard for him to make a claim of executive privilege after he has already put it out there publicly", Rozell told The Washington Post. According to the New York Times, Comey kept detailed memos of their meetings, including one from a day after Flynn's departure in which Trump was quoted as saying, "I hope you can let this go", about the Flynn investigation.

Comey probably will be asked about conversations he had with Trump concerning Russian election meddling and the FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

White House advisers had previously said that Trump was exploring his legal options regarding Comey. That committee is expected to listen to Comey's testimony about the investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling a year ago and Comey's private conversations with the president. Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation.
