New Jersey set to vote to replace unpopular Christie

The Democratic contest is being led by Phil Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive who has never held elected office, and opponent Assemblyman John Wisniewski.

All the Democratic candidates have endorsed a fairly liberal agenda, including a $15 minimum wage and marijuana legalization.

"She's worked the state very hard over seven years", Auth said.

But the issue just behind that, he said, was the so-called Bridgegate scandal.

New Jersey is facing a massive unfunded public pension liability, which Moody's Investors Service forecasts will lead to a $3.6 billion annual budget deficit within six years.

Ciatterelli, 55, has criticized Christie, and by extension Guadagno, for the state's repeated credit rating downgrades in the face of budget problems. The state's unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since 2001, and now stands at 4.1% compared with 9.8% when he took office in 2010.

Polls will be open from 6 8 p.m. "To be honest with you I didn't even realize it was tomorrow", she said, adding that she hopes fixing the delays and train breakdowns on NJ Transit is a priority for the next governor.

Republican Kim Guadagno started her last Sunday morning before New Jersey voters cast their ballots in the state's primary election in a familiar setting.

With Christie absent frequently during the presidential campaign, Guadagno has already spent months as acting governor. Democratic candidates Bill Brennan and Tenafly council member Mark Zinna are also on the ballot but didn't meet the requirements for televised debates. He chairs the lower chamber's transportation committee and co-chaired a legislative panel that investigated the 2013 George Washington Bridge lane closures.

The Democractic primary victor will seek to tie the Republican nominee to Christie and by extension to U.S. President Donald Trump. "I'm the only one who is saying "no more taxes" on the most taxed people in the country, quite frankly".

"Both candidates, Guadagno and Ciattarelli, have largely been avoiding him".

Guadagno said she wasn't conceding Burlington County, arguing that she helped bring close to $500 million in capital investments and 10,000 jobs to the county in her role as the administration's point person for economic development.

Dworkin also said the fact that Guadagno was part of the Christie administration for the past eight years won't make much of a difference. Virginia is the only other state with a gubernatorial election this year.

"What most New Jerseyans care about are taxes, they care about reforming the pension".
