Trump global warming announcement out Thursday

Trump tweeted Wednesday that he would announce his decision on the Paris accord "over the next few days".

President Donald Trump came under pressure on Wednesday from corporate CEOs, US allies, Democrats and some fellow Republicans to keep the United States in a global pact to fight climate change, while a source close to the matter said Trump was preparing to pull out of the Paris accord.

Seychelles U.N. Ambassador Ronald Jumeau said a USA pullout would be "a problem for all of us", adding that all countries are going to have to do more to combat climate change. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Public Service Company of New Mexico - the state's largest electricity provider - expressed ambivalence about the move on Wednesday. Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

The accord, agreed on by almost 200 countries in Paris in 2015, aims to limit planetary warming in part by slashing carbon dioxide and other emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.

Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune said Trump had ceded the United States' role in directing climate change efforts to countries like China and India.

Withdrawing would leave the United States and Russian Federation among the world's industrialized economies in rejecting action to combat climate change.

News of Trump's expected decision drew swift reaction from the United Nations.

Under the Paris Accord, almost 200 nations agreed in 2015 to voluntarily cut greenhouse gas emissions in a landmark agreement to fight climate change.

In a statement backed by all 28 EU states, the European Union and China will commit to full implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, EU and Chinese officials said. The White House Rose Garden.

Skoog says a withdrawal would damage US "ambitions in other multilateral negotiations and their work in the United Nations". When the deal was enacted, critics said it would lead to higher rates for electricity consumers as utilities would be forced to make expensive upgrades to reduce carbon emissions from coal.

Twenty-five companies, including Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp. and PG&E Corp., have signed on to a letter set to run as a full-page advertisement in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal on Thursday arguing in favour of the climate pact, and warning of potential "retaliatory measures" by other nations. "Anything that we do that works to curtail global warming is an economic plus". "In fact, if the major provisions of our draft 2017 Integrated Resource Plan are ultimately adopted and approved by regulators, PNM electricity would be coal-free by 2031".

Guterres said in that speech that "it would be very important for the USA not to leave the Paris agreement".

That fight has played out within Trump's administration. "This (the Paris Agreement) will be a devastating blow to our war against poverty, as those living paycheck to paycheck will not only see increased costs on their electric bills and at the pump, but will also be affected by decreased funding for schools, hospitals and law enforcement in our local communities".

Trump could also declare the Paris Agreement a legal treaty, which would require the Senate to approve it, the sources said.

"New Mexico is at the bull's-eye of climate change, and New Mexicans have been demanding action because they can see the impacts of global warming every day in the form of more droughts, increasingly severe wildfires, and rising temperatures", Udall said.

A US decision to withdraw from the accord could further alienate American allies in Europe already wary of Trump and call into question USA leadership and trustworthiness on one of the world's leading issues. "Our clean energy industry is growing and employing millions of Americans in good-paying jobs in both red and blue states as it powers more of our businesses and communities".

The decision would set the world's largest economy apart from nearly all of the rest of the nations on earth and move in opposition to many large American companies, as well.
