Stokes and Wood lead England to series glory

Seamer Mark Wood bowled a sensational last over for England to beat top-ranked South Africa by two runs and win their one-day worldwide series on Sunday (NZ time).

South Africa really should've won from that position.

But South Africa - often accused of "choking" in pressure situations - saw Miller and Chris Morris (36 not out) fail to score the runs they required as Ball and fast bowler Wood held their nerve.

There had been some doubt over whether Stokes would play today after briefly leaving the field with left knee trouble during England's 72-run win at Headingley on Wednesday.

Two singles were followed by a dot ball, a single and another dot ball.

Ben Stokes called on England to carry their form into the ICC Champions Trophy after they wrapped up the Royal London Series against South Africa on Saturday.

Ben Stokes was dropped off the first two deliveries he faced before he smashed 101 off 79 balls.

England played phenomenally well with the bat in hand.

Maharaj endured three off the dropped catches off his bowling, Stokes badly put down first by Hashim Amla at slip and then by De Kock.

The all-rounder was passed fit to take his place for England in the second ODI against South Africa after suffering a knee injury in the series opener. Amla eventually went leaning back on a thrashed drive in the covers off Stokes that flew straight to Morgan. Runs began to flow again as Miller and Chris Morris freed their arms, setting up an exciting finish.

De Kock, who hit 11 fours, was caught behind while attempting to glide offspinner Moeen Ali to third man, and de Villiers gloved a low catch behind the wickets off Liam Plunkett.

Buttler, one of whose seven fours was an extraordinary reverse swot off Phehlukwayo, kept the runs coming, as England scored 111 in their last 10 overs.
