White House lawyers researching impeachment

Lawyer Michael Cohen also visited the White House to discuss the possibility of hiring personal attorneys for Trump, CNN reported.

White House officials believe the President has the backing of Republican allies in Congress and that impeachment is not in the cards, according to the people briefed on the legal discussions.

And reports that a senior adviser was a "person of interest" in a probe of possible collusion with Russian Federation during last year's election campaign emerged just as Trump jetted off to Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip as president.

It is not clear precisely what inspired White House lawyers to begin reviewing how impeachment works, but in the week and a half leading up to the CNN report, Trump has been engulfed in several major controversies. "And there's been a shocking disrespect of the rule of law by this White House".

The insiders said that White House lawyers are vetting experts as a preemptive - and defensive - strike against Democrats calling for the impeachment of Trump.

In addition to all of this, the Times also reported that the Trump team knew Flynn was under investigation by the FBI for possibly being an agent of the Turkish government when it hired him to be National Security Advisor.

The Justice Department has appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to investigate alleged ties between Trump officials and Russian Federation.

Lieu said it doesn't matter what the FBI or Congressional investigations into Trump's ties to Russian Federation find, "the President committed a federal of crime of trying to obstruct or even influence that investigation". I will not be moved. Maxine Waters and Al Green - have called for Trump's impeachment.

Debate is focused on whether Trump has committed a crime if he's found to have attempted to interfere with the FBI investigation, with some experts making the case that his actions amount to an obstruction of justice, while others say there is insufficient evidence to prosecute.

A White House official denied any claims of wrongdoing.
